“My mom used to make me clean the baseboards in our house – not all the time. Just every few months and I would agonize over it. I didn’t understand why we needed clean baseboards. Certainly no one noticed them – no guests came into a house they were welcomed into and commented on a thin layer of dust on the baseboards. But every so often on a Sunday my mom watched me drag a damp cloth down both sides of the hallway and tell me which spots I missed. The rest of the day I would sit out in the sun and get bored – it was still better than cleaning anything that I thought didn’t need to be cleaned…”
That is the beginning of a longer piece I wrote for “Or Something,” a zine by the talented artist (and my close friend) Tom White. He sent a group of writers and comedians a series of drawings he completed in 2022-2023 and told us to write whatever they made us think of. I have no doubt it’s funny, insightful, and maybe a little weird. Contributors include Raine Yung, Maggie White, Parker Uber, Matt Morris, Brandon Kr
al, Lou Bisio, Drew Laughner, Joe Cariola, and myself.
Order a copy for just $12 to read my whole piece, see the art, and read everyone else’s writing!
Love this so much :)
